QR Code Setup Onsite

Learn how to setup your jobsite with QR codes, and register them using the iOS app.

QR code placement

The Sitelink platform uses QR codes as physical markers on your jobsite, to align the real-world environment with your digital BIM model.

💡Tip: Place QR codes in locations where it will be easy to align the model later on. For example:
  • Center of a column @ benchmark height
  • On the left side of each doorway 5ft up
  • On the floor 4” offset from the southwest corner in each room
  • Place QR codes around your site in whatever spots make sense to you. Generally speaking, it’s helpful to have a minimum of 4 QR codes and at least one QR code in every room (or every 30-60ft in a large area)
  • We find it’s helpful to place two QR codes near each other (1-2ft apart). This makes them easier to find and align in the alignment step.

Small Space

Large Space - Few Codes

Large Space - Many Codes

  • First two codes are placed very close together
  • First two codes are placed very close together
  • First two codes are placed very close together
  • Remaining codes are placed around the perimeter of the space.
  • Codes are placed every ~60 feet around the perimeter of the space.
  • Codes are placed conveniently in each room.

  • Best for quick setup and less frequent usage.
  • Best for frequent usage  since users will be able to get aligned no matter what room they’re in.

QR code registration scanning using the iOS Sitelink Hub app

  • Login to the Sitelink app on your iOS device
  • Select your project
  • Open the global menu and select Add QR Codes

  • Slowly walk around and scan each of the QR codes you wish to register. When the Sitelink app recognizes a QR code, it will be highlighted by a frame and an "Activate QR Code" button will appear onscreen. Tap this "Activate" button to register the QR code. You can deactivate a QR code if you change your mind and do not want to register it.
QR Code not yet activated -orange registration mark, no check mark QR code activated - green registration mark, check mark

  • It’s helpful if you scan each QR code once and then walk back to each of the QR codes so the device sees them twice and can make small corrections in the position.
  • Once you’ve scanned all your QR codes, select Finish and then select Save Fragment
  • OPTIONAL: Add 3D scans and photos for more precise alignment
      1. After completing the QR code registration, launch Siteview

    1.
      1. Scan and activate at least two codes to localize

      2. Walk up to a QR code and create a sitelink on top of the QR code

      3. Create a 3D scan and capture the area around the QR code, making sure to include a bit of the floor.

      4. Take a photo or two to help you identify the location.

      5. During the alignment on desktop, you can open these sitelinks and use the 3D scans and photos to help you locate yourself in the model and align with more precision

  • You are now ready for alignment via the Sitelink Portal on the desktop.
